Short-Term Assignment: Lecturer in International Public Law (PhD Student)
Location: Vientiane, Lao PDR
Duration: 3 months (full-time or part-time negotiable)
Organisation: Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA)
The Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA) is seeking a PhD student in international public law to undertake a three-month teaching assignment in Vientiane, Lao PDR, as part of its legal training programme for government officials.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach key topics in international public law, including areas such as treaty law, state responsibility, and human rights law.
  • Prepare and adapt teaching content appropriate for public officials with varying levels of legal knowledge.
  • Conduct in-person sessions, facilitate discussions, and provide guidance throughout the training.
  • Work closely with ILSTA’s team to ensure consistency and relevance of the curriculum.
  • Support basic evaluation and feedback processes at the end of the training.
Profile and Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a PhD programme in international public law or a closely related field.
  • Strong academic background and understanding of core areas of public international law.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or public speaking — experience as a Chargé de TD at a French university is a strong asset.
  • Able to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a developing country context.
  • Working language is English; knowledge of French or Lao is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Asia or development cooperation is an advantage.
